Eat Your Way To Paradise

May 17, 2012

I could go to Paris and not see the eiffel tower.

I'd rather eat food. Real. Paris. Food.

A croissant in a cafe and some foreign people to watch are all it really takes to keep me in blissland for an hour or two.  Or six.

Food is definitely a motivator.  I don't like to brag, but I'm actually not a bad cook.  I mean, I'm no Jamie Oliver; but I do love to whip up a little sumin sumin delicious and homemade every day or so.

Like pasta... I. LOVE. PASTA.

I prefer it with no meat.  Simply noodles and sauce.  Sometimes just noodles with butter and fresh parmesan.  Add a glass of red and MWA.  I'm so there.

My favorite pasta recipe is one that I actually made up myself.  I don't know all the words but its creamy and tomatoey.
oh yes, this is an trendy iphone photo.  for the purpose of visual representation only. please don't judge me.

Here's the long and short of it.
  • Boil water and add salt and oil. (the normal pasta stuff)
  • Fry up some onion and garlic (try real hard not to burn the freaking garlic... I do it nearly every time)
  • Pull the pan off the heat. (I have an electric stove so turning the plate down REALLY doesn't work so well)
  • In a medium sized bowl, or mortar and pestle if you're fancy, mush up about 500g of cherry tomatoes.  Don't cut them, squish them.
  • Sprinkle on some salt to draw out the juice.
  • Add a handful of chopped fresh sweet basil.
  • Stir it around.
  • Put the frying pan back on the heat and get the crackling back in the onion and garlic.
  • Add the mushy tomatoes and basil.
  • Cook down until its all juicy and the tomatoes get al shrively and sweet.
  • Add around a cup of full cream or whatever cream you want...
  • Salt and pepper
  • I like to add it to the bowl of pasta to coat it and then add some (A LOT) of fresh parmesan.
