There is good.

I've been busy like a little beaver finishing up my first wedding video... you wouldn't believe all the little technical bugs I've had to fix, not to mention the audio wrinkles I've been obsessing over. Sigh, finally I'm finished and should be posting it soon!  Just waiting to show it to the happy couple.

Anyhow, during my free (read: procrastination) time I have discovered something quite profound.  Well, I think its pretty profound.

This website called Airbnb.  I'm so in love.

This is a website full of stunning photographs, helpful information and best of all, ACCOMMODATION LISTINGS!  Not your ordinary hotel listings... no no no.  These listings are for rooms, apartments or even couches for you to crash on/in for between a few nights and a few months at a time!  Obviously you book, pay, etc.  Just like any other B&B but this way seems far more social and affordable.  The reviews and photos had me mesmerized for a lot longer than I would like to admit.

Maybe you're thinking: Charity, that's exactly like a hostel.

But I'm thinking:  Um, but how many hostels do you know that have 30+ reviews (most of which are in the last year) with fellow travelers giving their honest feedback in detail??  Its like TripAdvisor on CRACK!

Oh dear, I really do have an itch to go somewhere. Anywhere.

The profound part of my discovering this beautiful, addictive website?  Over 800 people who are part of the community in New York have opened their homes to victims of hurricane Sandy for free.  I'm actually blown away.  How easy is it to just focus on ourselves when I'm sure everyone is dealing with a week or so without electricity, work buildup, family etc?

New York, you are amazing.

  1. Hi! I'm a first time reader :) Congrats on your first year of marriage! My husband and I will be married two years in January. We plan on celebrating in Paris and my good friend just recommend airbnb to me this morning.! I've been looking at homeaway.com too. It's so nice to have options other than over-priced hotels!
